Rachel Carroll - After Civil Twilight

"This exhibition is a continuation of my two loves - Twilight and Landscape.

After a trip to the centre of Australia in 2023, I have continued to journey with paint and explore the Australian landscape. Some Artworks in this new series for 2025 are a flashback to Arrernte Country while others are a new location - Mudgee – Wiradjuri Country. Both locations take on a new light. That is, after Civil Twilight and the second phase of Twilight where the colours become a little more muted. Science has given names to the 3 stages of Twilight and we can now enjoy observing the way colours change in the land every 30 minutes for 90 minutes.

I want the viewer to feel as if they are in the land walking through the hills and grasses, seeking to look upwards to the sky, to see what can be seen of it. Immersion is a calming effect that allows nature to take over our everyday thoughts. I walk and I often ask myself, what bird is that, what plant is that, as inspiration takes over and the search in nature continues."

Audrey Rhoda - Just Being

"It’s the way I endeavour to be and continue to pursue as I grow older.

In these uncertain times my painting takes me to a place where I feel safe.

Away from social commitments and distractions which interfere with just being.

Whenever I start a work I have no preconceptions of outcome, I know my intuitive mark making will guide me.

Creature elements appear layer by layer, which I develop into a fun-filled narrative for the viewer to interpret as they see fit!

My work is constantly full of surprises to me.

I enjoy creating colour conversations which add to the whateverness!

This immersive process befriends my state of 'just being'.

Just saying!"
