This body of work explores the tradition of slipware and earthenware glazes. 

The work combines my interest and love for organic form, mark making and ceramic process, both wheel forming and hand building. The themes of the work centres around heaven and earth and is a celebration of the creation and creating.

The work reaches into the evocative nature of botanical life, memories and the cycles of the seasons, times and places.

I paint light with dark. Large scale architectural structures, and minimal shapes and forms. Pure black, oil on canvas creates an interaction in the  space between the work and the viewer,  light reflects over the textured paint creating forms that appear and disappear as the viewer shifts perspective. 

This method allows an expanding variety of techniques and challenges, a minimal approach that entails an expanding process to explore and learn from.

(From Rex: Kjell is a young artist with a big, worldly, enquirng aesthetic, challenging us, and I'm sure him. His work is evolving quickly. Every new suite of works continues on from the previous, usually the last artwork produced pushing formal concerns in space, light, composition and narrative in the new artworks. These black, light influenced compositions in oil are elegant and sophisticated, simple, yet incredibly complex.  A young emerging artist with a mature aesthetic. Most definitely a strong future. Start collecting his work. Seriously, trust me on this. I have 5 now!     :)
