Philly Kemarre (b. 1996) is an Arrernte artist born and raised in Darwin, Northern Territory. His practice is grounded in Country, identity and the forces that shape how we understand ourselves, our histories and our place in the world. 

Kemarre’s new works remain traditional in their story telling yet bring to Australian Indigenous Art an urban street vibe, distilling a sense of dynamic – energised playfulness throughout the paintings. Kemarre’s art does indeed challenge the norm, they are at times sexual, three dimensional and utilise western motifs and iconography in their composition & palette. 

Perhaps a new genre in Australian Indigenous Art has arrived, Neo Indigenous Art, brought to you by Philly Kemarre.
