David ROBERT Hill

David Robert Hill is a British artist (active in Australia), who was born in 1938 and has resided and worked as a painter in the Blue Mountains region for over 50 years. His work is modernist in style, often utilizing the majestic landscape of Katoomba in the Blue Mountains and the surrounding regions. 

Generally highly coloured, his oil paintings are both dramatic and uplifting, yet offer the viewer a sense of space and stillness. Hill continues to work in the genre of still life, landscape and what he calls his 'Astral Paintings'. 

Recentley, David Robert Hill has established the Hill Painting Prize. It's rare an artist becomes a benefactor of much needed art events/prizes in the arts calendar, providing exhibition opportunities, recognition, and of course, much needed financial support for artists. Hill should be congratulated and praised for his generous philanthropy.  The innaugural Hill Painting Prize is held at the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre from 8 Aug – 20 Sept, 2026. 

The Hill Painting Prize is a celebration of the natural landscapes, urban spaces and manmade environments of the Blue Mountains, captured through the medium of painting. It is held on a biennale basis and is open to artists across Australia.
