New oil paintings and watercolour pencil on Birchwood panel(s) art works, featuring the colourful, whimsical - fantasy landscapes by the Queen of topiary, Jude Rose.

Jude Rose is a mid-career artist who works in the style of magic realism. She explores our spiritual connection to nature and the lively interplay of early morning and evening light on the trees, flowers and foliage of the beautiful Blue Mountains.

She simplifies the shapes of gardens, trees, hedges, animals and birds to introduce an allegorical element to her pictures. Her figurative works are nurturing and mythical in nature, leading to a pathway between the natural and supernatural world.

Employing rich vivid colours she builds up images from snippets of flora in the environment surrounding her home and then compiles her final image. This naïve method lends a certain freshness and magical whimsy to her art.

Jude’s drawings on birch wood have been likened to silk embroidery and complex puzzles. She uses thousands of delicate pencil strokes to create a fine texture woven together by the interplay of pencil, watercolour and ink. 

Jude’s oil on canvas & linen artworks are equally rich and strong, and the multiple layers of glazing produce a depth of colour inviting the viewer to meditate upon the deeper mysteries of nature.
